It’s a lovely day in the woods and Scruffy Pup is enjoying hopping rocks at a nearby stream…
I did more experimenting than usual when coloring this comic. When I was a kid, I practically learned to read with Calvin and Hobbes collected comic treasuries (I requested them for bedtime stories). I wanted to give a woodsy feeling similar, but not exact, to how Bill Watterson would color the outdoors. While I didn’t attempt any digital watercolors, I’m still happy with the results for the area that Scruffy Pup is frolicking about.
Here’s my battered and well-loved copy paperback copy of The Essential Calvin and Hobbes that first got me into reading and comics in general. Alongside it is the hardback copy I bought many years later to read so I wouldn’t further destroy the original from my childhood.

This is so adorable and entertaining. I really appreciate your talent. Thank you for sharing.
