An intro of sorts from someone who is short
This is Shorty's Shorts. I picked this name from the title I used on a mini-comic of short comics that I did in college. It looked like this:
It’s been 15 years since I made that collection. I still think it’s got some gems in it, and I like seeing how much I’ve improved. Hopefully, this illustration and this post gives you a general idea of my tone of writing.
Since I made that comic, I did a lot of things I didn’t really expect for that time or for life in general:
Got married (although I was engaged when I made some of those comics!)
Lived in multiple apartment and houses across 3 different cities
Made my way through three different jobs in my web dev journey. Not bad for someone who self-taught herself development so she could post anime fanart and fanfic online in the late 90s!
Broke my leg on a Friday the 13th and had to get a titanium rod inserted on Valentine’s Day (Good ol’ Roddy is almost 9 years old!)
Had a kid and somehow am doing a Good Job at it (so I’ve heard from multiple people, including my swell kid)
Had some mental well-being concerns on and off that required balancing
Kept comic-ing and making all sorts of things, including non-comic things (Crochet! It’s a delight!)
I hope to write about these things as candidly as possible. This might include swearing sometimes, but I’ll do my best to keep that in check. I do make a host of all-ages friendly comics and illustrations after all.
This year, I’m turning 40. I think that’s clicked a portion of my brain that reminded myself “Hey! You got a minor in writing and I’m pretty sure you liked it! Pick it back up in a consistent space again!” I hope you’ll enjoy this trip with me when the click to writing hits.
